There is a new, local option for after-school care and fitness, and it's all in one place.
Cardio Kick Fitness on Hwy. 160, just inside the Lancaster County line, offers personal training, fitness classes, and an after-school program designed to get kids moving and having fun.
Group fitness classes are also offered, including kickboxing, gliding, and YoChi, a combination of yoga and Tai Chi.
In the afternoons, Woods travels to Fort Mill and Indian Land elementary schools, picks up her registered students and takes them back to the studio where Cardio Kick Fitness becomes the Adventure Afterschool program.
At Adventure Afterschool, students are offered a healthy snack before settling in to work on their homework. After homework time comes play time, said Woods, where the students have a 30-minute fitness class that gets them moving after a day spent at their desks.
"We really work on their core and balance in a noncompetitive class," Woods said. "I want them to equate fitness with fun."
After fitness class, the students play puzzles and games. They can also enjoy books read aloud in the reading corner. Woods and her staff sit and play with the children, she said.
It's an interactive program, she added, not just "sit and monitor." Students are picked up by 6 p.m.
Woods has offered similar children's programs and fitness classes in the Ballantyne, N.C., area. They were so successful that she decided to open her own fitness and after school care center.
The cost of the after school program is $60 per week. Costs for personal training sessions and group fitness classes vary.
