Plaza Fiesta is up to 120 shops
A little more than a year after its transformation into a Latino-themed shopping center, new shops are continuing to open at Plaza Fiesta, the former Crossroads outlet mall next to I-77 in Fort Mill.
A Sprint store arrived last month, a full BB&T branch recently held its grand opening and a La Poblanita Enterprises supermarket and a karate school are on the way.
The center now has about 120 tenants, up from the handful it had in late 2007, operations manager Roel Lopez said. Legacy tenants such as Van Heusen, Bass and Hamrick's have remained.
The more traditional mall area has one vacancy, a 26,000-square-foot space that management aims to fill by summer, Lopez said. The marketplace, which features small booths selling a variety of wares, is about 70 percent leased and is also adding tenants. Among them are apparel stores and those selling soy candles, airbrush design, tropical shirts and cigars, and a Dish network location.
The mall's towering indoor playground has also begun hosting birthday parties, which have proven a big hit, with about 50 to 60 per month.
The newest arrival is Luxurious Decor, owned by La Ton Adams, an interior decorator who moved to the area three years ago from Buffalo, N.Y.
She said she was attracted by the affordable rent and the opportunity to reach customers and showcase her business to shoppers.
Adams makes drapes, pillows and accessories, and offers residential and commercial design and home staging services.
