Former Bloomington police Sgt. Jeff Pelo was arrested in June 2006. Some key events:
June 11, 2006: Police arrest Pelo outside a home after being called to investigate a possible prowler. Pelo is charged with burglary and stalking.
Aug. 10, 2006: A grand jury indicts Pelo on 35 counts, including 28 charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault. His bond, initially set at $2 million, is reduced to $1 million.
Feb. 2007: Defense attorney Steve Skelton says he'll no longer represent Pelo, citing medical problems. Springfield attorneys Jay Elmore and Michael Costello replace Skelton.
May 2007: Elmore and Costello withdraw, saying Pelo won't be able to pay for their services. The family hires Chicago attorney Michael Rosenblat.
November 2007: Pelo resigns from his $81,000-a-year job without explanation, but police say he'll now gain access to money he's paid into his pension.
March 19, 2007: Judge Robert Freitag sets a May 12 trial date in Pelo's case. The trial is expected to last at least four weeks.
