Report of kidnap attempt investigated
(Published March 18, 2008)

A young girl living on Durnad Road in the Regent Park area told York County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday that someone tried to abduct her from her home.

According to a report filed Monday evening, the girl told deputies an unknown black man, about 5-feet 7-inches tall and wearing a tan and orange shirt, tan pants and black shoes, grabbed her as she was putting her bike in the garage around 5:30 p.m.

Deputies said the girl, whose age was not released, told them the man let go when she screamed for her older sister, who was inside the house. The girl then went inside and the man fled, the report stated. The sister’s age was not released either, but the sheriff’s said both girls are minors.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, according to Capt. Jerry Hoffman.

The older sister told deputies that, based on the younger girl’s description, she had seen the suspect in the neighborhood in the past. The older sister said she has seen a man fitting that description at around 8 a.m. some mornings and also some afternoons. She said she saw him Monday afternoon when she got home from school and that she said “hello” to him, the report states.

Deputies also talked to an adult in the neighborhood who saw a man matching the description approximately 20 minutes after the alleged kidnapping attempt. However, according to the report, deputies also spoke with several other children in the neighborhood who said they had not seen anyone similar to the victim’s description.
