The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for southeast York County and parts of Lancaster County shortly after 11 a.m. when wind patterns consistent with a tornado were spotted in Chester County. The Weather Service said the storm was headed toward Fort Mill. A warning siren went off three times during the warning.

Fort Mill Town Hall closed at around 11:30 a.m. Staff and some residents took cover in the lower part of the building, where the police department and town court is located, until the all clear was given at about 12:30 p.m. The storm past through to Charlotte without incident.

Fort Mill schools held annual tornado and earthquake drills last month, according to Fort Mill School District spokesman, Bob Ormseth.
