• Lynn Varnadore of Fort Mill won first place in the beauty contest and the Nivens Sisters gospel trio, also of Fort Mill, won first place in the talent contest at the annual York Electric Co-op Fair held in York.

• L. Crandall Close, a junior at Wellesley College, was recognized as a Durant Scholar for highest academic achievement.

• Air Force Sgt. Robert T. Jowers of Indian Land was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service while stationed in Thailand.

• Seven young Fort Mill women entered the Miss Fort Mill Pageant.

1948

• Jackson Clothing Company, owned and operated by R.C. Jackson and Louis Mckibben, opened next door to the Center Theater.

• H.P. Walker, superintendent of Springs Mill One, was elected president of the Fort Mill Lions Club.

1928

• The American Legion Auxiliary was planning a party in honor of the World War mothers of the community to be held in the home of Mrs. O.T. Culp.

• Confederate Memorial Day was fittingly observed at the high school auditorium. James C. Dozier, adjutant general of South Carolina, and Capt. Elliott W. Springs delivered addresses.

1908

• The trustees of the Fort Mill Graded School reelected the entire corps of teachers for the 1908-'09 school session.

• A special price for a round trip ticket by rail from Rock Hill to Birmingham, Ala., for United Confederate Veterans to attend their annual reunion was $8.55.
