(Published July 16, 2008)

FORT MILL TOWNSHIP -- A recent burglary in Baxter Village on Friday, July 11, may be linked to two recent burglaries in the Gold Hill Road area, according to York County Sheriff's Office investigators.

On Saturday sheriff's deputies detained a male suspect in the burglaries. His name was not disclosed as of press time Tuesday because no charges had yet been filed.

According to a sheriff's office report, the burglary was interrupted by the Eli's Way homeowner after he came home and noticed his son's TV at the bottom of the front steps. The victim yelled out, "hello," and the suspect came running down the stairs and said, "I am sorry," as he opened the front door and ran out.

As the suspect drove off in a red Honda with a Georgia license plate, the victim kicked the passenger side door. Deputies said they were able to identify the suspect's vehicle by the dent left by the homeowner's foot.

Investigators searched the suspect's home and recovered multiple items, and now they are trying to identify the items' owners. They also are investigating possible links to two other home burglaries recently in the Gold Hill Road area.

An undisclosed amount of jewelry and electronics was stolen from the Baxter victim's home, according to the report. Additionally, the burglary caused $300 damage to the victim's front door.

The victim didn't want to comment about the attempted robbery when contacted by the Times. It is the policy of the Times typically to not report names of crime victims.
