• The proposed annexation of the Friendfield residential development was delayed due to the area not joining the present town limits.

• City manager John Hatchell presented a new town budget of almost $1.4 million, a quarter of a million dollars more than the current year's budget.

• Tracy Hamilton, 17 year-old senior, was named Homecoming Queen at Indian Land High School. She was sponsored by Carlton Michael Carnes.

• The Fort Mill Senior Citizens Club organized a chorus known as the Swingin' Singing Seniors. The chorus was directed by Kerrin Hopper and Donna Cotter.

1968

• Sally Mullineaux was named Carrousel Princess at Fort Mill High. Karen Phifer and Kay Reid were runners-up.

• Army Spec. Four Jerry D. Helms was awarded the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Silver Star for his service in Vietnam.

• Paul Hardin III, president of Wofford College, was the guest speaker for Laymen's Day at St. John's United Methodist Church.

• "The Green Berets," starring John Wayne, enjoyed a four-day run at the Center.

1948

• George Fish High School played its first ever football game when the team hosted Jefferson High School of York. The score was not available.

• S.L. Coltharp, 82, one of Fort Mill Township's oldest and best known farmers, died in an automobile accident near his home.

1928

• The Fort Mill High School Kanawhas battled Winthrop Training School to a scoreless tie on the local field.

• Henry Lee Patterson purchased the home place of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Patterson near the southern limit of town.

1908

• E. Earl Thornwell, son of J.H. Thornwell of Fort Mill, assumed the editorship of the "Darlington News."

• Chief of Police V.D. Potts was appointed by the State Audubon Society to enforce the state game laws.
