Fires may be linked
Two grass beds in two different apartment complexes - one on Archie Street and the Forest Ridge Apartments - were set on fire Thursday, Jan. 1, and Saturday, Jan. 3, according to Fort Mill Police Department reports.
Someone set a grass bed on fire and etched, "R.I.P." on it in front of a bedroom window on Archie Street, according to one report. Someone set the grass on fire on the 2000 block of Forest Ridge; it was spotted by a resident as he was headed home, according to a second report.
Cocaine charge
A Rock Hill man was arrested at the intersection of Hwy. 160 West and Hwy. 21 Friday, Jan. 2, and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to a Fort Mill Police Department report.
Dwayne Odell Mackey, 29, of 1967 Oak Pond Road, was sitting inside of his car outside of a business after 11 p.m., when an officer approached him, according to the report. The officer asked him why he was there at that time of night and Mackey allegedly said he was on his way home. The officer said he was given permission to search Mackey and his car after the officer saw a large pile of cash hanging outside of Mackey's pocket. Three plastic baggies, containing 5 grams of cocaine, were allegedly found on Mackey during a search.
ATM burglarized
A man tried to break into an ATM at a business on Carowinds Boulevard Friday Jan. 9, according to a York County Sheriff's Office report.
A clerk said the man walked to the back of the store and tried to take money, but was unsuccessful, according to the report. She said the man drove away in a charcoal gray Impala with racing stripes. The damage to the teller machine door is valued at $300.
Drug bust
A Fort Mill Township man and woman were arrested and charged with multiple crimes on Banks Road Friday, Jan. 9, according to a sheriff's office report.
Hoyle Rodger Coley, 60, and Dianne Bell Hope, 61, of 1550 Banks Road Apt. 43, were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana in the proximity of a school and possession of numerous prescription drugs, according to the report. Police allegedly found 83.8 grams of marijuana, 23 Librium pills and firearms Coley is not allowed to possess because of prior convictions, accoording to the report.
Cars burglarized
A car had its tires taken off of it and another was stolen on Avenue of the Carolinas last Thursday and Sunday, according to sheriff's office reports.
On Thursday, a Fort Mill Township man left his car in the parking lot and took a bus to work in Charlotte and when he returned, his car was burglarized, according to one report. The man said his car was left on cinder blocks and his rims and tires, valued at $800, were stolen. On Sunday, a Charlotte man said while he was in a business, his car and tools inside of it were stolen, according to a second report. A black, 1996 Honda Accord and tools, valued at $3,350, were stolen.
Woman attacked
A woman was attacked at her home by her ex-husband Saturday, Jan. 10, according to a Tega Cay Police Department report.
The woman said the two of them went out the night before and had gotten into an argument, according to the report. She left and came back to her home a few hours later. After she returned, he told her to leave. She tried, but he would not let her and allegedly punched her in the back of her head, the woman told police. She left the home and got into her car, but the man allegedly punched her in again. A police officers said there was a knot on the back of her head and saw a bruise on her left elbow. The man was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence.
• Police reports of all felonies and any major misdemeanors are compiled weekly from local law enforcement agency records. Charges do not necessarily result in a conviction, and people who are arrested are innocent until proven guilty.
Watch your speed!
Fort Mill Police will be concentrating on traffic enforcement on Williamson Street the next several days in an effort to reduce speeding around town.
This is part of a long-term effort to get motorists to comply with local speed limits. The area of focus will shift from week to week. Residents can call the department at 547-2022 to report frequent incidents of speeding inside town limits.

Flint Hill fire calls
The Flint Hill Fire Department had 80 total responses in December, the department rreported. The calls included one building fire, two other fires, four hazardous condition calls, 23 alarms answered and 15 motor vehicle accidents responded to.
