Local teen charged with using truck to wreck school wall
A Fort Mill teen was arrested and accused of driving a truck into a wall of a school under construction, according to police said.
Now, Roger Desmond Burns, 17, of 202 Drane Circle, faces multiple charges in connection to the 2008 crime, according to a report posted on a Web site maintained by York County Sheriff's Office.
"He drove a [truck] into a wall at Pleasant Knoll [elementary school]," in Fort Mill, Lt. Pat Kiefer of the sheriff's office said.
"He wrote derogatory statements."
The youth faces multiple charges, including seven counts of "breaking into auto or tanks where fuel is stored; two counts of malicious injury over $5,000; petty larceny; use of vehicle without permission and driving under suspension," according the Web site.
That site shows that Burns was booked at York County Detention Center around 1 p.m. Friday, June 12.
His arrest stems from an outstanding arrest warrant and two driving violations, according to police reports.
On May 23, 2008, police responded to a vandalism call at a construction site just off Pleasant Road, where the site and some heavy equipment was vandalized, according to a report from the sheriff's office.
Authorities discovered more than $12,000 in damaged equipment, including a John Deere track hoe, and anti-law enforcement graffiti and profanity at the scene, the report notes.
Authorities also discovered damage to a concrete wall and footer that was caused by a dump truck, the report notes. That damage was approximately $15,000, according to the report.
From that scene, authorities lifted a fingerprint and observed several shoe impressions believed to originate from someone who wore Nike Air Shocks, the report notes.
Then, last week, authorities responded to a disturbance call at 202 Drane Circle.
Authorities were told that Burns, without permission, left in his mother's silver Lexus sports utility vehicle, according to another police report.
When police spotted the SUV, they discovered that Burns' driver's license was suspended and subsequently charged him for that as well as use of vehicle without permission, according to two traffic tickets.
Authorities later learned that the sheriff's office had outstanding warrants for Burns, the police report notes.
A judge set bond at $1,700 for driving under suspension and use of vehicle without permission, according to the Web site maintained by the sheriff's office.
His court date is slated for Wednesday, July 8, for those charges, according to the traffic tickets.
No bond has been set for the other charges, the Web site shows.
Burns was slated to appear in court on June 16.
He remained in custody Monday at the detention center.
