Joshua Carter
Army Specialist Joshua Manning, 22, of Huntersville, N.C., was united with the Lord ON Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville. A Rosary and Wake were conducted Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Raymer Funeral Home.
He will be greatly missed by his family and every life that had the opportunity to meet and know him.
Mr. Carter was born in Columbia and lived most of his years in Charleston. After graduation from Hopewell High School in Huntersville, he enlisted in the United States Army as an infantry soldier. Mr. Carter was based in El Paso, Texas, and was assigned to B Company 4th Battalion 6th Infantry Regiment. He recently returned from a deployment to Mosul in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom V. He was recommended for the Meritorious Service Award for untiring dedication, initiative, technical and tactical competence enabling Bravo Co. to achieve a safe and secure environment in Iraq.
His dedication and professionalism are in keeping with the finest military traditions and reflected great credit upon him.
Mr. Carter is survived by his parents, Jimmy and Erin Carter of Huntersville; a brother, Hank Carter at Francis Marion College in Florence.; a sister, Rachael Carter of Huntersville; his grandmother, Jo Ann Kane of Fort Mill; his grandfather, James H. Carter Sr. of Columbia; and grandparents Dr. and Mrs. Allen L. and Mary Harrell of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Margaret Chambers.

David Sikes
Mr. David Richard Sikes, 43, formerly of Fort Mill, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in Mesa, Ariz.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 21, 2008, at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel, with pastor Chris Fisher officiating.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Sikes was the son of Carrie Anne Golden Messer and Billy Woodrow Sikes.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and also served in the National Guard. Mr. Sikes was the owner and operator of a wallpaper hanging company.
He is survived by his mother, Carrie G. Messer of Fort Mill; his father, Billy Woodrow Sikes of Charlotte; his son, Cody Richard Sikes of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Billy Woodrow Sikes Jr. of Sanford, N.C., and Mark Clifford Sikes of Fort Lawn; and a sister, Amy Lynn Sikes of Indian Land.

William H. Bates
Mr. William Harry Bates, 90, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Agape Rehabilitation Center.
Memorial services were held Monday, May 20, 2008, at Grace Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Bates is survived by his wife, Charlotte Criss Bates; two sons, Jeffrey A. Bates and William H. Bates II; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Cadance Merritt
Cadance Mae Merritt, infant daughter of Brandon Merritt and Megan Hjort-Kelsey of Westside Drive, Fort Mill, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A memorial service was held Friday, May 23, 2008, at Whitesell Funeral Home in Rock Hill.
