Poster winners to be in calendar

Six local fifth-graders will get $100 savings bonds after their artwork was chosen from 180 entries for the York County Solicitor's Office first annual Anti-Drug/Violence Calendar.

Posters created by Tori Herron, John Romanski, Michal Elizabeth Kemp, Lauren Ervin, Isaiah Blackmon and Wendy Yang were selected with six other winners and an honorable mention for the calendar, according to Deputy Assistant Solicitor Ouida Dest. "We have always been interested in getting involved with prevention," Dest said of the solicitor's office. "We think it's important to show we want to prevent crime not just prosecute it."

The solicitor's office will be distributing full color 12-month calendars to local schools, law enforcement offices, libraries and other locations later this summer. There will be no charge for the calendars, which will include important local law enforcement and school phone numbers. Each winner will also get a copy.
