FORT MILL TOWNSHIP -- Looking for an excuse to wear pajamas and hair rollers past your mailbox or front lawn?
Look no further. Wearing pajamas is a mandate for an upcoming Fort Mill fundraiser.
Come Saturday, March 7, Bruster's Real Ice Cream on Hwy. 160 West is set to kick off its annual fundraiser, which will benefit two York County nonprofit agencies.
"Anybody who shows up in their pajamas will get a free waffle cone," said Scot Reed, co-owner of Fort Mill's Bruster's.
"It's just a party for a day. It's so much fun."
Reed and his wife, Sherry, will dole out waffle cones stuffed with "the flavor of your choice" from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Customers can donate money, which will go to Tega Cay's Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Rock Hill's Children's Attention Home, an emergency shelter for neglected, abused or abandoned children from York, Lancaster, Chester and Richland counties.
Last year, the Reeds doled out more than 1,300 waffle cones to support Big Brothers Big Sisters and Neighbors Helping Neighbors. That effort raised about $1,500.
"We've been able to take the resources and support the real needy in our community -- the unfortunate in our community who don't have the opportunity to have things like ice cream or have a good time," said Bill Stumpf, chief executive officer of Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
The Reeds hope to top last year's donations to help children in the tri-county area. "Wearing your pajamas to get a free ice cream cone is a great family event and a way to give back to the community," Scot Reed said.
"It's always fun to go somewhere in your pajamas," said Sherry Reed.
Checks payable to Neighbors Helping Neighbors or Children's Attention Home can be sent to Bruster's Real Ice Cream, 2603 W. Hwy. 160, Fort Mill, 29708. For details, call 548-4070.
