Got a computer glitch? Go see the Proz in Fort Mill
Darrell Freeman was on a mission: Find out what was wrong with a computer and fix it.
It's what he does five days a week at PcProz Computer Repair, a Fort Mill computer repair shop off Hwy. 160 East.
"Everyone's computer is like their baby," said Freeman, 41, of Fort Mill. "If their baby gets sick, they take him to the doctor."
And like a doctor, Freeman fixes what ails suddenly "sick" computers.
"If a customer brings a computer in that they think is dead and I fix it, the customer perks up," said Freeman, who served in the U.S. Army for eight years, including operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
The business, anchored at 1431 Hwy. 160 East, opened in early February.
Services include residential and home-base repairs, technical support as well as private and commercial computer software tutoring, Freeman said. He previously owned a North Carolina-based computer repair business, but he sold it and moved to South Carolina about two years ago for better opportunities, he said.
But there was no escaping technology, he said.
"Everything is computerized," said Freeman, who has worked with computers since 1983. "You can't even order food unless there's a computer involved whether it be the (cash) register or the store lights in the restaurant."
Fixing computers is Freeman's passion: He can't imagine doing anything else, he said.
"It's something I enjoy," he said. "If you can't enjoy your work, what's the use?"
Repairs start at $40 while diagnostics run about $50, he said. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Emergency hours are available Saturdays.
