It's about kids, not property
I just wanted to voice my opinion of the newest attendance zone option that is being offered for the middle schools here in Fort Mill.
As a mother of several children of varying ages, I looked at the district's newest option with great concern. I live within the White Grove Subdivision and I currently have children in FMES, FMMS, and NFHS. A concern that I have is that with the new plan the directions of traveling in the morning would be unrealistic to achieve. But truthfully, my largest concern is the kowtowing nature of the school board to the areas in Fort Mill that have more resources available to them.
To come up with another plan at this point just emphasizes this situation all the more. It is comments that are spoken on the playing fields, in the supermarkets and at the kids' social meetings that are truly disturbing to me and should be to all. It is upsetting that there is such a nervous air within certain communities within Fort Mill about who children will be paired up with in the classroom, specifically in regards to race and income.
Talking about property values instead of educating the children of Fort Mill in a way that benefits all is rather disgusting to me.
