INDIAN LAND --
Odd shaped packages? No problem. Need to ship internationally? Easy. Just need a few stamps? That's what they do here.
The UPS Store in Carolina Commons, just outside of Sun City, has been busy since early April customers' packing and shipping needs. But the store, owned by Heda and Jigar Desai, has turned up the volume of business since Dec. 1.
December, they said, will be their busiest month yet.
“There is no regular post office here and mostly the senior citizens in Sun City have to go far to send regular mail, so we thought this would be a good location. [It's] convenient.”
Residents of Sun City, Indian Land, and from as far as Waxhaw, N.C., and deep in Lancaster are coming to the store for packing and shipping Christmas presents to send to relatives and friends.
In addition to packing and shipping, the store offers regular postal services, including stamps and mailing items via U.S.P.S. The Desais also offers copying, laminating and binding, faxing, as well as greeting cards and passport photos.
One of the stores most popular services is mailboxes with a street address, which allows customers to ship packages to the store during the day and someone there will sign for the package. Customer can pick up the package 24 hours a day. Many online shoppers use this service, Heda Desai said, because they don't have to be at home to sign for the package when it arrives.
It's a one-stop shop, Desai said.
Since the first week of December, the shop has been packed with folks trying to prepare packages for the holidays. The busy season started early at the Indian Land store, said Heda Desai, who used to work for a UPS Store on Providence Road in Charlotte.
“This is the busiest week and for the people who want to ship far away, these are the last days to ship and make it there before Christmas if you want the low rates,” Jigar Desai said.
The new UPS store is located at 6251 Carolina Commons Drive (Hwy. 521). The phone number is 548-9300.
