Tega Cay police investigate robbery complaints

Tega Cay Police are investigating two possibly related incidents involving an armed robbery at a restaurant and a demand for cash two days later, according to Tega Cay Police reports.

The reports state a man closed the restaurant in the Stonecrest shopping center around 9:45 p.m. Dec.4. As he left through the front door, two men allegedly demanded money from him and said they had a gun, a report states. The suspects, described as Asian males wearing black jackets, black knitted caps and jeans, reached into the victim’s pocket and took $70 in cash from him. They demanded more, and the victim led them inside the restaurant to get more money from the cash register, the report states.

But the victim grabbed a phone and called 911 instead of getting more cash. The two men fled the scene in a small white car, the victim told police. They were not located.

Two days later, the same victim came to the police station and said two men had just called him demanding money and were on the way to the restaurant, according to a second report. The report states police detained the two men who had made the phone call and questioned them about the call and demand for money. They told police someone told them to ask for money and that the man from the restaurant had given them $500 in the past. When police tried to get more information, all three men started changing their stories, the report states. Police let the men go. When a woman picked up the two suspects, she was driving a car that matched the description of the getaway car from the alleged robbery two days prior.

But lacking sufficient evidence, no arrests were made, the report said. The case is still under investigation.

The victim was suspended from school for his alleged role in the altercation.
