Charges against a Fort Mill man accused of stealing a truck from Budget were dropped after the rental company told police they mistakenly reported the truck stolen.
Police found the truck around 4 p.m. Jan. 5 after it was involved in an accident at the Wells Fargo bank branch at 403 Tom Hall St. The report states the driver of the truck tried to go through the ATM drive-up lane, but struck the roof overhang above the ATM. Police responded and recognized the truck as one reported missing from Budget Truck Rental on Dec. 5.
The driver told Fort Mill police that he had permission to use the truck, but when police checked with company officials, they said the truck was stolen and still missing. Police arrested the driver at the scene and took possession of the truck as evidence.
Later, the company realized it made a mistake in reporting the truck stolen, blaming the misinformation on a paperwork error. Charges against the Fort Mill man were dropped.

Tega Cay woman
choked, punched
A Tega Cay woman told police during an argument she was attacked by a man living with her, according to a Tega Cay Police report.
The incident happened at a Tega Cay home around 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4. The woman, 43, told police the man, 67, became angry and argued with her about a trip she took in October. During the altercation he became violent, choking her, punching her in the face and chasing her from room to room inside their house, the report alleges.
The man also pulled a phone off the wall so the victim couldnt call police, she told police. The woman says she fled the house and used a neighbors phone to call authorities.
When police arrived, the alleged attacker denied harming the woman, and instead accused the woman of harming him. But the woman had visible injuries consistent with the attack, reports state. Police charged the man with domestic violence.
