Support for trauma, abuse victims available

All artists welcome

The Catawba River Art Guild meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Arts Council of York County, 121 East Main St., Rock Hill. Guests are welcome at the meetings.

The Catawba River Art Guild was created to support, encourage and inspire the interest of art and artists in the community. Dues are $5 per year.

Support for trauma, abuse victims available

A one-hour Trauma and Abuse Recovery Group hosted by the Center for Restoration in Fort Mill, will meet for eight weeks every Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. May 24. Gain understanding, share and heal in a safe group context.

Alateen meetings offered

Weekly Alateen meetings are held from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

It’s a 12-step meeting for children and teens whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. The group offers meetings for ages 6-12 and 13-19.

Meetings are held at the Zoar Road Club, 14701 Thomas Road, Charlotte (approximately two miles from Sonic on Hwy. 160 in Fort Mill ).

Scuba club dives into events

The Carolina Scuba & Adventure Club meets monthly at the Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.

Club members will be participating in beach cleanups, including an underwater cleanup.

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society Columbia office, Marvin Smith of Fort Mill provides ACS Man-to-Man prostate cancer support in the York County area.

Support for incest survivors available

A support group for victims of incest meets in Indian Land.

Sarah Harrison, an expert peer counselor in the field and the author of “You Love Your Daddy, Don’t You?,” a book about her own childhood incest, hosts the group.

The group meets the first and third Thursday of each month at the Del Webb Library at 7641 Charlotte Highway.

Civic sorority welcomes moms

The Michigan Club of Sun City Carolina Lakes is soliciting new members.

Hospice & Community Care will facilitate a widows support group that is open to the public at no charge. Registration is required.

Female equestrians can ride with Hoof Pickers

The Hoof Pickers is a new ladies horseback riding club. This social/volunteer club meets at 7 p.m. at the Gaston Farm Road Equestrian Center in Chester.

Members must be women, preferably over 35, who love horses.

Members do not have to own a horse. Gaston Farm has several programs to accommodate “Hoof Picker” members.

This club enjoys weekly trail rides as well as workshops on horsemanship and other topics.

The club co-sponsors a monthly open horse show on the first Saturday of each month March through November.

The club also support the nurse mare foal program at the Dream Equine Therapy Center (www.dreamequinetherapy.org).
