1992

• Craig Neal was hired as an officer for the Fort Mill Police Department replacing Cpl. Julian Friday, who was designated as the department’s drug officer.

• The Fort Mill swim team won its home opener 355-99 over Kershaw. Michelle Helms was the team’s coach.

• One person was killed and seven were injured in a two-car accident on rain-slick Hwy. 21 Business south of Fort Mill.

• Tega Cay and York County officials agreed to allow the city to provide water along a part of Gold Hill Road if the city could buy the present private system.

1972

• A 15-year-old Monroe girl, pregnant and unable to swim, drowned at the Fort Mill boat landing while scores of on lookers declined to help.

• Jerry Wolfe, Fort Mill’s new boys basketball coach, completed his family’s move from Winnsboro, where he had coached for seven years. Wolfe succeeded Jim Walser.

• News was received in Fort Mill that a long needed traffic light would be installed at Hwy. 160 West and Hwy. 21 Bypass.

• The 1972 Fort Mill Golf Club Championship was won by Richard Hinton with a 72 hole score of 294.

1952

• Johnny Grant, young Fort Mill man, accepted the position of administrator of the Loris Community Hospital in Loris.

• S.Sgt. Kenneth P. Nims of the United States Air Force was awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Achievement in aerial flight over enemy territory in Korea.

1932

• It was pointed out to the Times that Capt. Elliott W. Springs of Fort Mill was at the controls of the first airplane to sail over South Carolina soil and the first airfield in the state was in the rear of his home in upper Fort Mill.

• An ad in the Times stated that swim prices at Nims Lake were 10 cents for children and 20 cents for adults on Thursdays.

1912

• Police Chief Potts received an award of $5 from Gastonia for the capture of a thief.

• The long-awaited new double-decker railroad passenger station in Rock Hill was thrown open to the travelling public.
