• Fort Mill and Tega Cay residents celebrated the Fourth of July with a myriad of activities.

• Fort Mill was facing a loss of $1.4 million in housing money because suitable land was not available.

• Murray White of Fort Mill, colonel in the South Carolina Army National Guard, received the U. S. Army Meritorious Service Medal in ceremonies at Fort Jackson.

• Monica Melton, an outstanding pitcher on the Indian Land softball team, signed an agreement to continue her softball career at USC Aiken.

1972

• Officer Bill Ward of the Fort Mill Police Department submitted his resignation to the city council and Roddey Caskey, a former office in the department, was hired as his replacement.

• Thirty seven people were arrested by York County officers for trespassing and swimming in an abandoned rock quarry near Flint Hill Baptist Church.

• The reports of no one offering to help a 15-year-old girl who drowned in Lake Wylie were refuted by witnesses.

• Several Fort Mill residents, male and female, were fined in magistrate’s court for stealing peaches and tomatoes from the Springs farm.

1952

• Members of Unity Presbyterian Church voted unanimously to extend a call to the Rev. John E. Wayland, who would accept the call.

• The opening of the much anticipated bowling alley at the Fort Mill Golf Course was delayed indefinitely due to a strike at the Brunswick Co., manufacturers of the alleys.

1932

• A party of about 20 Boy Scouts returned from a camping trip at Chimney Rock, N.C., all saying they greatly enjoyed the outing.

• A report reached Fort Mill that a considerable quantity of food and other supplies had been stolen from the York County chain gang while working near Clover.

1912

• About 20 young couples attended an enjoyable dance in city hall.

• James H. Sutton, a well known farmer of upper Fort Mill, decided to enter the race for road supervisor of the township.
