The Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is holding a genealogy research ”Quick Crash Course” for prospective members on documenting your lineage 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Del Webb Library, 7641 Charlotte Highway, Indian Land. Registration is 9:30 a.m.

Toastmasters offers educational material on such topics as overcoming the fear of speaking and giving advanced speeches such as roasts and other humorous speeches.

Other programs that can provide helpful material are the Better Speaker Series and the Leadership Excellence Series.

All artists welcome

The Catawba River Art Guild meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Arts Council of York County, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill. Guests are welcome at the meetings.

The Catawba River Art Guild was created to support, encourage and inspire the interest of art and artists in the community. Dues are $5 per year.

Alateen meetings offered for teens affected by others’ drinking issues

Weekly Alateen meetings are held from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

It’s a 12-step meeting for children and teens whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking. The group offers meetings for ages 6-12 and 13-19.

Meetings are held at the Zoar Road Club, 14701 Thomas Road, Charlotte (approximately two miles from Sonic on Hwy. 160 in Fort Mill ).

Scuba club dives into events

The Carolina Scuba & Adventure Club meets monthly at the Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.

Club members will be participating in beach cleanups, including an underwater cleanup.

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society Columbia office, Marvin Smith of Fort Mill provides ACS Man-to-Man prostate cancer support in the York County area.

Support for incest survivors available

A support group for victims of incest meets in Indian Land.

Sarah Harrison, an expert peer counselor in the field and the author of “You Love Your Daddy, Don’t You?,” a book about her own childhood incest, hosts the group.

The group meets the first and third Thursday of each month at the Del Webb Library at 7641 Charlotte Highway.

Indian Land Dems meet

Indian Land residents are organizing the Indian Land Democratic Club. In addition to monthly meetings, news and information will be shared on the website www.indianlanddemocrats.com. Residents are invited to attend the Indian Land Democrats Club at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month in the meeting room of the Del Webb Library.

Club for young mothers

A new club for young mothers meets in the conference room at the Fort Mill Library in Baxter Village.

Young mothers in their teens to early 20s are encouraged to bring their children and socialize while giving their children the chance to interact with kids their age.

Beta Sigma Phi is here to help

Beta Sigma Phi, an international women’s sorority, has a chapter in Fort Mill. The sorority is a non-academic sorority with 200,000 members in chapters around the world and 30 members in Fort Mill and Tega Cay (Epsilon Epsilon Chapter). It was founded for social, cultural and civic enrichment.

The Greek letters of its name represent Life, Learning and Friendship, which is the organization’s motto. They hold two Annual Charity drives: one in the fall to raise money for Fort Mill Care Center and one in the spring to raise money for Foundation for Fort Mill Schools.

A Caregivers Support Group meets at 852 Gold Hill Road, suite 201, Fort Mill.

This Caregiver Support Group is structured gathering of caregivers, family and friends of persons with dementia who meet to discuss issues related to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Call 396-2155.
