1992

• After serving 14 years on the Fort Mill School Board, seven as board chairman, Spratt White decided not to seek re-election.

• Owners of two properties in Fort Mill, one on Doby’s Bridge Road and one on Massey Street, were told to bring their property up to standards or they would be torn down.

• Martha White of Vista Road, Fort Mill, served as an intern to U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D- 5th District).

• Outlet Marketplace on Carowinds Boulevard, Fort Mill, would again be the site of the area’s Muscular Dystrophy Telethon for Jerry’s Kids.

1972

• Robert Wayne “Bob” Jones, head football coach at Fort Mill High School, was elected principal of A.O. Jones School.

• The Electric Co., supplier of electricity in Fort Mill since 1904, was purchased by Duke Power Co.

• Cadet Ladson. F. Mills and Cadet Rupert E. Moredock, each from Fort Mill, were among the carefully selected cadets who would comprise this year’s training Cadre at the Citadel.

• The Branding Iron, at the Hwy. 21 river bridge, offered a choice sirloin steak with potato, chef’s salad, onion rings and garlic bread for $2.95.

1952

• Richard Covington and Frank Young, star linemen on the 1951 Fort Mill High School football team, played in the All-Star football game in Columbia.

• George Ackerman, proprietor of the Economy Store, announced the store would expand into the adjacent storefront vacated by Rainwater Furniture.

1932

• Southern Railway was offering round-trip fares between Fort Mill and Savannah for $2.50.

• Two men, one named Russell and the other White, engaged in an altercation on the streets of Fort Mill and each was fined $7.50.

1912

• For the past year, the price of gasoline had advanced every few weeks until it had reached 18 cents per gallon.

• The ladies of the Methodist church were highly pleased at the manner in which the public patronized their entertainment give in Confederate Park.
