Several car break-ins under investigation

The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating three recent car break-ins across the Fort Mill Township area, according to several incident reports. The break-ins do not appear related.

Most recently, a 1995 Ford Econoline van parked off Grant Farm Drive was broken into overnight on Aug. 15, according to a report. The owner reported the crime the next morning. He said a generator and pressure washer were stolen, according to the report. The vehicle was locked and not damaged.

A second break-in occurred in the Cracker Barrel restaurant parking lot off Carowinds Boulevard between 2 and 3 p.m. Aug. 12. The vehicle’s owner told authorities someone punched out the driver’s side door lock, and stole a purse and iPad from inside the vehicle.

A third break-in was reported Aug. 12 when the owner of a 2007 Ford Mustang told authorities her car window was broken while the car was parked inside the Lakemont business park over the weekend, the report states. The owner’s purse and its contents were stolen.

Deputies have not made any arrests in connection to the thefts.

The manager of the Kangaroo at 249 Carowinds Blvd. flagged down an officer Thursday to report the stolen cigarettes, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report.

The manager said he reviewed surveillance video and discovered an unknown man came into his store seven times between Aug. 3-12 and stole thousands of cigarettes. The culprit would enter the store, go into the manager’s office and then come out with a black bag. A woman was working with the thief, according to a report.

The thefts were usually during the store’s busiest times.

The manager has started locking his office to prevent future thefts.
