FORT MILL --

The rain wasn’t the only thing that dampened the Nation Ford Lady Falcons’ season opener on the tennis court as they fell to Clover 5-0 last week.

In a rain-shortened match, Nation Ford was beaten handily by Clover in straight sets.

One match, the No. 2 singles match, which saw Clover’s Harriet Hall against Nation Ford’s Suzanna Goss, was the only match that wasn’t played to the final point because of the weather and was ruled incomplete. Goss had already dropped the first set 6-4 and was trailing in the second set 5-2 when the match was halted.

Nation Ford’s No. 1 singles Ashley Trull fell 6-0, 6-1 to Clover’s No. 1 Kate Stewart and the Lady Falcons’ No. 3 Casey Strickland lost to Caroline Hester in near identical fashion 6-1, 6-0.

The Lady Falcons’ No. 4 singles Darby Trull and No. 5 singles Tanashia Thomas also had near exact scores. Trull lost to Elizabeth Edmunds 6-2, 6-2 and Thomas lost 6-2, 6-1 to Corey Brom.

In the only doubles match, Nation Ford’s Suzie Clark and Annie Morgenstern fell 6-1, 6-1 to Merritt Miller and Anna Miszkiewicz.

Nation Ford will look to get back on track this week with home matches against Lancaster and South Meck before traveling to Rock Hill.
