Indian Land athletes ask fans to wear pink Thursday

INDIAN LAND -- 

There will be plenty of pink in the stands this week at Indian Land High School.

Thursday, Indian Land High’s varsity volleyball team and the JV football team plan to pink out the stands for breast cancer. This will be the third annual pink out event held at Indian Land High. The first pink out was held after current head volleyball coach Tamara Jacobus’ mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We are going to be all dressed in pink and we will have a donation jar. Buford will be wearing purple for pancreatic cancer,” Jacobus said of the volleyball team’s matchup.

To raise money for the cause, pink shirts with a volleyball or the Warrior football logo were sold the past two weeks at Indian Land High. In addition, donation boxes will be set up at each game with collected proceeds benefiting breast cancer research.

The Lady Warriors will be facing the Buford Yellow Jackets at 6:30. The team is 2-2 (0-1) on the season, having lost their last match to region foe Chesterfield 0-3. The result of the first match was 11-25. The Lady Warriors improved each match after, losing 17-25 in the second match and 20-25 in the third.

“We’ve got a long ways to go, we aren’t playing well right now,” Jacobus said.

“I’m still trying to figure out who needs to be where. We’re kind of a young group, mostly sophomores and juniors. We played terrible the first game, we didn’t pass the ball well, we didn’t set the ball well and we didn’t hit the ball well. They got better as the match went on, they played better in the third but we didn’t play well.”

The JV football team will be hosting the McBee Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The team hopes to rebound this week after losing their last game to Marvin Ridge 34-26. The Warriors have posted wins over Buford 14-13 and Lewisville 18-14.
