Thank you so very much for giving the subject of heroin a bold title in last week’s editorial.
Obviously the ego is needing to be shifted in the community. I assure you, we have a drug abuse epidemic in our quaint little township. Heroin (aka, Dr. Jekyll /Mr. Hyde) is just one of the growing, insane mood altering substances. It’s one of the most cunning, cheap, easy to get, quickly addictive drugs on the streets. As with most, it has no social prejudice nor economic boundaries.
Once addicted, a person will suffer an unimaginable mental and physical living hell. If not put under control by the addict, dignity regained, the outcome will worsen. In the meantime, it’ll harden the hearts of all involved and create the worst experience for family members and friends.
Especially if you are a parent and your child is the addict.
The monetary cost and significant damage in all spectrums of life is horrific with all substance abuse. This is the meanest, nastiest living nightmare any person can experience, substance abuse addict or not. You will be astounded by how many people are living in this ungodly hell. Denial is an addiction and is the worst answer. You are not immune. There are a lot of resources to help for the asking. The sooner the better. There are many people who understand and truly care and want to help. Including local law enforcement.
Remember: Addiction is a disease. You did not cause someone to become a substance abuse addict. You can not control it. You can not cure it.
Consider the prayer:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change.
Courage to change the things I can.
And wisdom to know the difference.”
If you choose to deny, choose to deny the ego!
