Fort Mill merchants organize Main St. crawl for Saturday

FORT MILL -- 

Main Street businesses hope to draw a crowd on Oct. 13 at the first Main Street Crawl.

Stores up and down Main Street will be open for business throughout the day. The crawl, organized by the merchants, begins at noon and lasts until 6 p.m.

Participating stores will have balloons by their doors. In those stores, drawings for prizes will be held. Music will be playing throughout the day and snacks will also be offered in many of the shops.

Among the 12 businesses participating are Pucker Butt, United Artisans of America, Art, Funk and Junk and The Knife Shop.

Drawings in the stores include a crocheted hat from United Artisans of America, an evening of painting at Painted Parrot, and ammunition from the Fort Mill Gun Shop.

In addition to the shopping and exploring, a scavenger hunt will help guide visitors around Main Street. Teams can fill out the scavenger hunt list as they explore Main Street businesses. The winners of the scavenger hunt will receive a “grand prize package,” according to organizers.

A digital camera is needed for the scavenger hunt.

“While you’re going in and shopping, getting refreshments and seeing what everyone has, you can look for clues,” said Amber Joy Eifler of United Artisans of America.

“It’s going to be harder than people think,” she added.

Main Street has attracted several new businesses in the past year including United Artisans of America, Local Dish, a restaurant with a farm-to-table concept, and Pucker Butt, featuring hot pepper sauces and seasonings.

“I’m excited for people to come to Main Street and see what we’ve done,” Eifler said.

The Knife Shop and Dave’s Comics are two of Main Street’s long-time businesses. Both are participating in the Main Street Crawl.

Dave Hinson, of Dave’s Comics, opened the comic book store on Main Street in 1982. He moved the shop to Rock Hill for five years but returned in 1995.

Some people don’t even realize Fort Mill has its own comic book store, he said.

“I hope [Main Street Crawl] will bring more people down here,” he said.
