FORT MILL --

Both Fort Mill bands were named top of their class in Bands of America Regional Championships this weekend. Bands of America Regional Championships bring bands from around the country to compete against one another in a preliminary and finals-style competition.

Bands that excel in the preliminary competition are invited to compete in the finals that evening.

Nation Ford High School’s Marching Band traveled to Alabama on Saturday for a Regional Championship to compete against 25 bands from six states, including several that have competed as finalists in the Bands of America National Championship. Nation Ford placed first in their class during the preliminary competition and won awards for Best Music, Best Visual, and Best Overall Effect.

In the finals round, the band was in third place, followed by Boiling Springs High School. This is not the last BOA event for Nation Ford this year. The band will also compete in the BOA National Championship in Indianapolis Nov. 7-10.

Fort Mill High School’s Marching Band competed at the BOA Regional Championship in Ohio. The band won first place in their class in the preliminary competition as well as awards for Best Music Performance, Best Visual Performance and Best General Effect. In the finals competition, the band finished second place overall.

Nation Ford and Fort Mill will both compete next at the 4A Upper State competition on Oct. 20 at Boiling Springs High School. Thirteen bands will compete for six spots in the state finals on Oct. 27. For the first time, five local bands will compete in 4A – Fort Mill, Nation Ford, Northwestern, Rock Hill and Clover high schools.
