Banks Trail completes undefeated volleyball season

FORT MILL --

Special to the Fort Mill Times

The Banks Trail Middle School volleyball team recently finished an undefeated regular season, ending its run only one loss in the playoffs.

The team consisted of many newcomers to volleyball. Coach Corri Hustedt said her philosophy for teaching first year players is to give each girl the opportunity to learn a position then rotate the positions so each player would know all of the roles in volleyball.

This is rare for younger players; many do not learn all of the positions until the high school level.

Training for the season began two weeks before school started in August, which was a little unusual for middle school sports. The girls took the first win of the season easily, and the team was incredibly responsive for the remanding season.

Hustedt said she was proud of the fact that the girls had all served overhand by the end of the season, a trait that is uncommon for beginning volleyball players. The team pushed its way through the season, coming out with hard-earned victories and earning experience in the game. The only team the girls had issues with was Fort Mill Middle, but they overcame the obstacles to win the match.

The proud coach stated that the girls did not lose one set, which is an incredible factor is considering how young the team is.

“Many coaches have commented that our girls know how to play and how impressive they are,” Hustedt said. “I’m glad I have girls who have stepped up to the challenge.”

Hustedt also commented on the young girls’ humble traits and earnest attitudes toward the game.
