Lady Falcons swept out of postseason in 2nd round

After sweeping their way past Boiling Springs in the opening round of the Class 4A volleyball playoffs, the Nation Ford Lady Falcons had to face the No. 1-ranked team in the state in the Hillcrest Rams and were themselves swept right out of the playoffs.

Nation Ford lost 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) to Hillcrest and ended their season with a 21-9 record.

The Lady Falcons were led by seniors Morgan Wilges, who had 12 digs; Caylee Antilley, who had 10 kills, and Gaby LaCorata, who had seven kills and 10 digs.

Going into the match, Nation Ford head coach Carrie Christian knew she had her work cut out for her.

“We had to play aggressive and with confidence,” she said.

However, Hillcrest was too much for Nation Ford.

In the opening round of the playoffs, Boiling Springs was a better match for the Lady Falcons.

Nation Ford swept the Lady Bulldogs, winning 25-18, 25-9 and 25-23.

Junior Amy Snyder led the Lady Falcons with a double-double with 33 assist, 10 digs, and three aces. LaCorata had 11 kills, four digs and four aces and Antilley had 13 kills, five digs and two aces.

In their first game, Nation Ford came out aggressive and went right at Boiling Springs, going up 10-6, forcing them into a time out.

After the time out, Nation Ford moved in front 15-10 and then 20-13, before Boiling Springs again took a time out.

Boiling Springs played better out of the time out and closed the gap in the match to make it 21-18 and in turn forced the Lady Falcons to take a time out.

That helped Nation Ford to regroup as the Lady Falcons scored four straight out of the timeout to close the first game out 25-18.

In the second game it was all Lady Falcons as they went up 16-6 and never looked back for the 25-9 win.

The third game was the closest as Boiling Springs opened 6-3, but Nation Ford would rally to tie at 9-9.

Both teams stayed within striking distance of the other and Nation Ford trailed 21-20 before a time out, before scoring six of the next nine points to finish the game out at 25-23.
