Christianity is under attack

Lately, startling news erupted from what some would call Biblical scholarship. Apparently, a piece of manuscript has been translated as Jesus making reference to His so-called human wife.

Most Christians I know reacted to the news the same way I did: “Oh really? Hmm, I guess 2,000 years of church history was wrong after all.”

Lovers of the Bible and God readily acknowledge that attacks on Christianity are on the rise. Not only that, but these attacks have taken place since the times of the New Testament.

Let us say for argument’s sake this fragment the size of a business card is actually authentic. What does this prove? It proves that some hundreds of years after Christ, someone recorded a man named Jesus referring to his wife. This could or could not be referring to the Messiah, or someone else with the name Jesus – which is Greek for Joshua. Several other points could be made, such as why this piece happens to trump the countless other fragments that verify the teachings of the Bible.

The one that came out with this so-called discovery is no friend of Bible believers. That by itself should at least raise a red flag.

Although many scholars at this time are calling the fragment a fake, do not be surprised when Christianity comes under attack in the future. The suppression of the truth dates back from the Garden Tomb, when the guards were told not to say what really happened at the Resurrection.

Lastly, should this highly questionable discovery ever be authenticated, and it indeed is referring to the Messiah, I would still have to chuckle. You see, we already have in our possession a manuscript that speaks of the wife of Christ. It’s called the New Testament, and it hasn’t been lost for hundreds of generations. The church is the Bride of Christ. He gave His very life for Her. He is at this time preparing a place for Her. He will in the future rescue Her from this sin cursed world.

My Christianity is not so shallow that future “discoveries” will persuade me otherwise. With the help of God, may the Church-His real Bride- withstand the assaults that now and will continue to be waged on Her.
