Fort Mill-Nation Ford rematch possible

- news@fortmilltimes.com

FORT MILL --

Can you say, "rematch?"

After playing a thrilling overtime game Friday night, Fort Mill and Nation Ford could be headed for a postseason version of the Milltown Showdown.

The 28-21 overtime victory over host Nation Ford that earned Fort Mill a playoff berth may have left many fans wanting more and now they might get their wish. Fort Mill travels to Greenwood next week while Nation Ford plays at North Augusta in the first round of the playoffs. If both win, they will play each other in round two.

Under that scenario, the game would be played at Nation Ford, which has a higher seeding than Fort Mill despite their identical 7-4 records and the Jackets' win over their rivals Friday.

In six games since Nation Ford opened in 2007, the Falcons have not been able to defeat the Yellow Jackets.

For the first time since the rivalry began, they may get a second crack at their cross-town rival in the same season.

Nation Ford won its first ever playoff game last season. Fort Mill hasn't won a postseason football game in about 15 years.
