Anne Springs Close finishes 32nd Springmaid race

FORT MILL -- 

Anne Springs Close, 85, competed in her 32nd Springmaid Road Race Saturday.

The event that drew more than 150 runners. Close has run or walked the race every year it was offered since its inception in 1979. There were two years since then the race wasn't held.

Close's family owned the Springs textile mills for more than 100 years and has set aside 2,100 acres for public use in Fort Mill, a natural preserve offering hiking, biking and kayaking called the Anne Springs Close Greenway.
