1992

• Steve Boyd’s Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated Dutch Fork, 12-0, to win the Region IV Class AAA championship with a 5-0 region record. Mac Watts and Omar Wilson led the Jackets.

• Mrs. Hattie Belk Potts, 90, widow of George W. Potts, passed away at Camelot Manor Nursing Care Center. Bestselling author Pat Conroy attended the funeral.

• Seven members of the Fort Mill FFA were preparing to attend the national convention in Kansas City. Mo. Mark Windham was chapter advisor.

• A new business opened in the township. Keith Gardner moved his Venice Beach Gym from Pineville to Hwy. 160 West, Fort Mill.

1972

• Fort Mill City Council did an about face and voted to charge water users outside the city limits 50% more than city residents. Intense pressure from city residents forced council to reconsider.

• Miss Connie Bookout was crowned 1972 Homecoming Queen at Indian Land High School. In a drenching downpour, the Warriors defeated Bethune 35-0.

• Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets sank deeper into the mire of a losing season. The Jackets were 2-7 after 21-0 loss to Blacksburg.

• Lt. Col. Donald Massey, formerly of Fort Mill, received his wings as a Master Aviator.

1952

• Dwight David Eisenhower defeated Adlai Ewing Stevenson by a landslide in the Presidential election. Fort Mill went for Stevenson by an 813-450 margin.

• Ronald L. Winchester, of Fort Mill, Aviation Ordnance Man, USN, was awarded the Bronze Star medal for heroic service aboard the carrier USS Boxer off Korea.

1932

• The store of the Mills Mercantile was robbed of $150 worth of guns, shotgun shells, flashlights and other articles.

• One of the Ladies’ Societies of St. John’s Methodist Church gave a miscellaneous shower for the pastor, the Rev. D.W. Keller and his family.

1912

• Mr. James H. Patterson opened a restaurant in the Watson building on Confederate Street, next door to the local Post Office.

• Mr. J.J. Coltharp of the township was hired and started work as a member of the Fort Mill Police Force.
