Church collecting gifts for kids

A number of churches and individuals in Lancaster County are participating in Operation Christmas Child this year. Each person or family fills an empty shoebox with such items as school supplies, toys, hygiene items, T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry and flashlights (with extra batteries). Gifts are chosen for boys and girls ages 2-14.

National Collection Week this year is Nov. 12-19. In Indian Land, Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Road, serves as the dropoff site. The site will be open Monday, Nov. 12, through Saturday, Nov. 17, and Monday, Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.

Temple Solel, a Reform Jewish congregation, will begin to hold Shabbat Services as well as religious schooling at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church at 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill.

Services will be held 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.

Religious school will be held on Thursdays, at 6:30 p.m.
