1992

• William Jefferson Clinton defeated George H.W. Bush and Ross Perot to win the presidential election by a wide margin. In Fort Mill, Bush won 56 percent of the vote.

• In the Fort Mill School Board election, Bob Jones and incumbent Richard Bates were elected.

• Col. Elliott White Springs, founder of Springs Industries, was one of five aviators inducted into South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame.

• Fort Mill’s Yellow Jackets won their first round playoff game 28-14 over the Travelers Rest Devildogs. The Jackets gave up their first points in five games.

1972

• Richard Milhous Nixon was elected President of the United States by the widest margin of victory in this nation’s history. Fort Mill voters went for Nixon by a 3-1 margin.

• The Rev. B.W. Downing, pastor of the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene for the past 10 years, resigned to accept a pastorate in Evansville, Ind.

• Zoar United Methodist Church held a fall revival at the church on Zoar Road. The Rev. Joe E. Tysinger was the guest minister.

• Indian Land’s Warriors won the Conference 3, Class A football championship with an 8-7 victory over the Mt. Pisgah Rams. Fort Mill finished their season with a 2-8 record after losing to Great Falls, 13-7.

1952

• More than 800 citizens attended the “open house” at Fort Mill’s new half-million dollar high school located on Banks Street.

• Raymond F. Spinks, son of Mrs. H. F. Spinks of Branson Avenue, Fort Mill, graduated from Officers Candidate School, Fort Benning, Ga., with the rank of Second Lieutenant.

1932

• Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected as the 32nd president of the United States in a smashing victory over the incumbent, Herbert Hoover. John N. Garner was elected vice president.

1912

• Woodrow Wilson was elected as the 28th president of The United States defeating the Republican incumbent, William Howard Taft and Progressive (“Bull Moose”) Party candidate, Theodore Roosevelt. Thomas R. Marshall was elected vice president.

• An ordinance on the statute books of Fort Mill set the speed limit in town at 12 miles per hour.
