FORT MILL --
The Foundation for Fort Mill Schools Honor Your Teacher program gives parents an easy and charitable way to check teachers off the Christmas list.
Choosing a gift for a beloved teacher can be a tough proposition. Something handmade or store bought? A special treat or a gift card?
The Foundation for Fort Mill Schools Honor Your Teacher program gives parents an easy and charitable way to check teachers off the Christmas list.
A donation, in any amount, can be made in honor of a teacher in the district. The teacher receives a certificate and is featured on the Foundation website and publication.
“We want to honor that teacher, to let people know that teacher is dedicated and making a difference in students’ lives,” Foundation director Caryn Scroggs said.
The donations go toward the Foundation’s Innovative Classroom Projects Grants. The grants fund creative classroom projects that exceed the funding abilities of the school district. Recent grant funding awards included buying Kindle Fire tablets for a classroom, while others included equipment to promote active lifestyles among students and staff members.
The Foundation was established in 2003 with the goal of promoting and enhancing academic programs in the district. It raises money entirely through donations, Scroggs said. The more donated, the more they are able to give to teachers in grants each year.
“It gives us an opportunity to fund more programs,” she said. “We get so many creative ideas from teachers that we want to fund as many as we can.”
Last year, the Foundation gave out 15 $750 grants.
“It’s whatever amount you want to give. There is no set amount per teacher,” she said.
