1992

• Odell Peoples, Fort Mill linebacker and fullback, was selected for the North Carolina-South Carolina Shrine Bowl football game. Peoples was the first Yellow Jacket selected since Randy Smith in 1974.

• The Fort Mill School Board remained adamantly opposed to single-member district representation.

• The Town of Fort Mill was considering three locations for the site of a new Fort Mill fire station, and a decision was expected soon.

• Evans Newell resigned his position as director of the Fort Mill Community Chorus. He and his wife, Cindy, planned to form a music ministry.

1972

• Miss Joan Foss, 15, daughter of Police Chief and Mrs. Floyd Foss, was elected Miss Fort Mill Junior High.

• Fort Mill’s first annual Coon Harris Memorial Bicycle Race, won by Paul Neal of Rock Hill, was termed a success.

• The State Department of Education recommended that Fort Mill school officials begin immediate preliminary plans for the erection of additional elementary school facilities.

• David Jennings, Gerry Neely and Jerry Stee received the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor at the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene.

1952

• Construction of Fort Mill’s Memorial Stadium had moved along in recent weeks at a rapid clip and was nearing completion.

• W.B. McFadden, Commander of Eli Bailes Post 43, American Legion, was appointed to the National Veterans Preference Committee.

1932

• The Rev. S.H. Booth was named the new pastor of the Fort Mill Methodist Circuit. The circuit consisted of St. John’s, Philadelphia and Pleasant Hill Methodist Churches.

• J.A. Greene of Fort Mill, proprietor of J.A. Greene Motor Co., was injured in a motor accident near York.

1912

• The parsonage of the Fort Mill Methodist Church, located at the corner of Booth and Church Streets, was completely destroyed by fire of unknown origin.

• The death of Mrs. Sallie Billue, 88, marked the passing of Fort Mill’s oldest lady resident.
