1992

• The Fort Mill Community Playhouse was planning to hold auditions for its spring production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Oklahoma.”

• Fire destroyed the Kimbrell Farm barn, a landmark in Fort Mill Township. Three horses died in the fire.

• Mac Watts was chosen as a defensive end for the North team in the 45th Annual North-South All-Star football game in Myrtle Beach.

• New Heritage USA announced a large expansion program on its 2,200 acres that could include 3,000 new homes and two golf courses.

1972

• Lawrence (Larry) Kitchen, Fort Mill native and president of Lockheed-Georgia Co., was presented with the “Silver Knight of Management Award” by the National Management Association.

• The Fort Mill basketball teams opened the season against the Hickory Grove Cardinals. The Jackets posted a 69-44 win and the Jackettes won 45-35.

• The Gamecocks were leading the Fort Mill Junior Optimist Bowling League with a 3-0 record. The Hang Tens, Yellow Jackets and Blue Angels trailed in the standings.

• Army Private Marion G. Crocker, 20, of Fort Mill completed eight weeks of basic training at Fort Jackson.

1952

• The annual class play of the Junior Class of Fort Mill High School, “Aunt Cathy’s Cat,” was presented at the Fort Mill Junior High auditorium. The cast included Bennie Pearce, Peggy Oliver, Tommy Neal and Frances and Frieda Merritt.

• Most Fort Mill stores that observed the custom of closing each Tuesday afternoon were remaining open through Christmas.

1932

• The Presbyterian and Baptist congregations of Fort Mill joined the Methodist congregation in farewell services for the departing Methodist pastor, the Rev. D.W. Keller.

• Reid Brothers store advertised baby Carnation milk, two for 5 cents; pure taffy kisses, 5 cents per quart; and extra thick fatback, 7 cents a pound.

1912

The ladies of the local Methodist Church spent one day sewing for the children of the Rev. T.J. White, whose home and effects were destroyed by fire.

• Mr. W.C. Pettus of the Belair section of Lancaster County bought the Barber Timberland consisting of 270 acres.
