Did I see that, or am I out of my tree?

So here it is, 12-12-12. I discovered a new word that I want to share. It totally sums up the month of December. Be warned, it’s big. I’m talking 10 letters. I’ll get to it quick, just in case something’s about to happen.

Say, can we get one of those 12 drummers drumming to do a drum roll here? And the word is... “ubiquitous!” ( yoo-bik-wi-tuhs): existing or being everywhere at the same time.

Christmas trees. Right. They’re ubiquitous, for sale on almost every vacant lot. So while traveling recently, why did we spot a vehicle with North Carolina plates and a Christmas tree tied on top on I-79 in Pennsylvania, heading south?

And it really was heading south because we were heading south and a few hours into our trip my husband exclaimed, “Hey. There it goes.”

“There what goes?” I asked.

“The tree.” He pointed excitedly.

Over the next several hours, we passed the tree, the tree passed us and so on and so on. My last sighting was around the Virginia-North Carolina border. Then we pulled into the North Carolina Welcome Center and I never saw the tree again.

All I want for Christmas is to know why someone tied up a tree and hijacked it hundreds of miles across state lines, especially at a time when Christmas trees are so ubiquitous.

If you know, I want to know: “What’s up with the traveling tree?”

My husband and I discussed several scenarios over cookies and we want to know who’s right.

Ooooh, I said “cookies.” Talk about ubiquitous. Wherever I go, cookies are there. I don’t know if I’m following them or if they’re following me. It’s a delicious circle. Oh, I mean vicious circle.

Cookies, cakes, fudge and pies. Cars, traffic, people and sighs. Red & white Santas, carolers singing, sparkling lights and frozen bell ringers. Family and friends, the fun never ends, love and laughter, and extra pounds after.

All ubiquitous.

Yes, I believe any sane elf would agree that my word “ubiquitous” sums up December. I say we call our 12th month, Decembiquitous.

Hmmm… that insightful idea just might earn me a spot on the “Smart Girl” list, right up there with my sister. I hope it’s not too late.

Hey, Santa, are you still there?
