Deputies: Man stabbed outside Fort Mill hotel

FORT MILL --

Witnesses say a Charlotte man argued with the driver of a red station wagon before he walked into the lobby of a Fort Mill hotel, claiming he had been stabbed early Wednesday.

Shortly after 2 a.m., deputies were called to the Best Western near Carowinds after receiving calls about Lewis Justin Scott Leonard, 23, suffering from at least two stab wounds to his shoulder and lower left side, according to a York County Sheriff’s report.

Leonard, deputies say, was “mildly verbally combative” and wouldn’t give much information. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. His condition was unavailable Wednesday.

Deputies spoke with one witness, a 33-year-old Fort Mill man, who said he saw an argument brewing between Leonard and several others in the parking lot as Leonard held onto the side of a red station wagon and ran beside it, the report states. The man said the driver went towards El Cancun before the car came back and parked under the canopy at the front door. That’s when Leonard got out the car, walked inside the hotel and said he had been stabbed as the car sped away.

Another witness, a 25-year-old woman from Florida, said she was in the car before Leonard was stabbed and followed Leonard inside the hotel once he had been injured, the report states. She said that Leonard was stabbed during an argument in the car, but she didn’t know who did it.

Officials identified the three people in the car — a Charlotte man, a Fort Mill woman and a second man — but haven’t yet made any arrests.
