A football dream deferred becomes a dream realized for Potts-Harris

FORT MILL -- 

Sometimes when you think a dream is dead, someone comes along to give it new life.

For 2011 Nation Ford High grad Sean Potts-Harris, that someone was Falcons head coach Michael Allen.

Potts-Harris, 20, had to forgo football at Southern Tech College in Charlotte because the program folded due to financial issues, he said.

“I thought my career was over,” Potts-Harris added.

However, Allen made some calls and got tape of Potts-Harris to some colleges around the country and Coffeyville Community College, in Coffeyville, Kan., jumped at what they saw.

“It ended up working out for him,” Allen said. “A lot had to do with his desire to play at the next level. They saw potential in him.”

Coffeyville, which is about 70 miles outside of Tulsa, signed Potts-Harris from what they saw on the tape Allen had sent the school.

Potts-Harris will start in January and will be a freshman. Because it’s a junior college, he will be there two years before transferring to another school. He is hoping to play at either Clemson University, West Virginia University or East Carolina University.

Potts-Harris said he decided to go to Coffeyville over Newberry because of the distance from home.

“It was away from here,” he said. “They are connected with the players and are high on academics.”

Potts-Harris could be playing on both ends of the ball at defensive back on defense and at running back and or receiver on offense. He could also return punts and kickoffs.
