1992

• Mildred and Phillip Neal of Bozeman Drive, Fort Mill, who had received services from the Fort Mill Rescue Squad in recent months, collected $493 in donations for the volunteer organization.

• A day short of his 24th birthday, a Charlotte man took his own life in the employee parking lot of the Fort Mill Post Office.

• The Fort Mill United Way ended its campaign with $111,200, 101 percent of its goal.

• Stan Fisher of Tega Cay, former council member and mayor pro tem of the city, died while vacationing in San Jose, Costa Rica.

1972

• York County Senator Sam Mendenhall of Rock Hill announced that a welcome center on I-77 would be built in Fort Mill Township.

• The Rev. Mickey G. Smith was selected as the new pastor of the Fort Mill Church of the Nazarene.

• Fort Mill City Council accepted the resignations of Roddey Perry, Superintendent of the City Streets and Sanitary departments, and Officer T. R. Philbeck of the Fort Mill Police Department.

• Fort Mill’s A&P had bone-in chuck roast for 49 cents a pound, four loaves of white bread for $1, a 15-pound bag of white potatoes for 98 cents and a 5-pound bag of sugar for 39 cents.

1952

• The Optimist Club of Fort Mill was organized and Dr. Grover C. Sheppard was elected president. Other officers included Joe Max Hinson, J.W. McAlhaney, Burdette Heemsoth and Cleveland Lytle.

• Christmas week movies at the Center included “Untamed Women,” “Against All Flags,” “Apache Country” and “My Pal Gus.”

1932

• Upper South Carolina experienced the heaviest snowstorm since 1918. Four inches of snow blanketed the area.

• E. H. Phillips resigned as road foreman of Fort Mill Township after 12 years of service.

1912

• For the second time in two months, work had to be suspended for the entire day at Mill No. 1 of the Fort Mill Manufacturing Co. as the result of some miscreant cutting the main drive belt of the weave room.

• The town’s police officers were instructed to enforce the ordinance against shooting fireworks. Violators were subject to a $25 fine.
