Fort Mill Middle 8th grade boys start 4-2
The Fort Mill Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team is currently 4-2 in the season and third in the conference. The Jackets started out strong – going 4-0 to start the season – then lost two tough games heading into Christmas break.
Reed Strawhorn, Alex Stennett, and Aaron Toler have been leading scorers for the Jackets, who are averaging 42 points a game while holding opponents to 36 points on average. The Jackets have also been shooting the ball well from behind the arc, connecting on 30 3-pointers.
On the defensive end, the Jackets are led by Stennett, who leads the team in steals, blocks and rebounds. LaDarious Turner is also playing good defense, trailing closely in steals and rebounds.
Against Oak Ridge, the Golden Eagles’ defense proved to be too much for the Jackets. Fort Mill, which lost 37-25, had defeated Oak Ridge earlier in the season.
“It was a tough fought game,” Fort Mill coach Tate Hamilton said.
“The shots weren’t falling for us, and we didn’t attack the basket enough. We played great on defense limiting Oakridge to one shot, but could not get our offense working on the other end.”
The Jackets host Gold Hill Middle Thursday and then will play Springfield Middle School on Jan. 14 at Springfield.
