Nine days into 2013 and I’m already feeling like a character in a Stephen King novel. You know, the kind where mere strangers are connected in some unnerving way and they don’t even know it.
For example, I’ve been thinking, “I need to lose these holiday pounds.” And, “I have to get my Christmas stuff put away.” And, “Oh, how I need to get organized.”
Then, I find myself in conversations with friends, neighbors and mere strangers and I discover that they are thinking the exact same thoughts. Now, that’s eerie. Feel free to hum the “Twilight Zone” theme here, it gets weirder.
One evening, three other cars and myself simultaneously pulled up to a four-way stop. Surprisingly, everyone stopped. But that’s not the weird part. Seconds went by and not one of us moved. We just sat there in the twilight staring at each other. And then, the weird part – we all decided to go at the same time.
Thankfully, we all decided to stop at the same time.
Four strangers sitting in their cars at a four-way stop and they all decide to make the same moves at the same time?
That’s just freaky.
And there’s more: A few days ago, I was thinking to myself, “Wouldn’t a pizza be good for dinner?” But under the circumstances, namely the few extra pounds, I wasn’t going to be the one to suggest it. Then, out of the blue, with a little hesitation and a lot of hope, my husband says, “You wouldn’t want to order a pizza tonight, would you?”
So there we were, heading out of our neighborhood to pick up a pizza, and who comes zipping in, but a pizza delivery guy. That meant, that someone in our small neighborhood was on the same wavelength as my husband and I. For all we knew, there were others, mere strangers, all over the world that same night, zoned in on the same thing – pizza.
All these people thinking what I’m thinking, when I’m thinking it, is a bit bizarre. But it could be a good thing, because I’m thinking that 2013 will be a positively, fabulous year. And if all these people keep thinking what I’m thinking, well, let me just say, there’s power in numbers.
So, happy 2013, I’m thinking the sky’s the limit. Care to join me?
