Enthusiasm – I’ve got it!

The meaning of enthusiasm is to be inspired. Henry Ford wrote, “You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars.”

I am inspired more this year than ever before. Perhaps it’s because I dropped several commitments that took up so much of my time.

I am enthusiastic about what’s going on in Indian Land. All three Indian Land schools earned “Outstanding” report cards from the South Carolina Department of Education for their performances. All three also won Palmetto Gold awards for academic achievement and high rates of improvement. Indian Land Middle School Principal David McDonald was named Middle School Principal of the Year for the State of South Carolina and the school was re-designated a National School to Watch.

Larry McCullough has been named chairman of the Lancaster County Council, a first for Indian Land, and Brian Carnes has been sworn in as our County Council representative, another first.

Of course I know the Indian Land Action Council will continue to keep the residents informed and will diligently take on any issues that will arise this year for the betterment of this area.

I am also enthusiastic about the contributions that the residents of Sun City have made, not just the monetary aspects but also for the tremendous amount of volunteering and compassion they have shown the residents of this area.

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Nothing was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” My enthusiasm and my love for this area are intimately connected, and it’s just fine for me to have both of them.
