1993

• Benny Patterson of Fort Mill was the new Worshipful Master of Catawba Masonic Lodge 56, Fort Mill.

• Petitions were circulated in Fort Mill asking the governor’s office to investigate the Fort Mill Police Department. The petitioners were upset with the way the department handled a sexual abuse allegation at Fort Mill High School.

• Windy Dickard, a junior at Indian Land High School, was named Miss Warrior. Wendy Hamilton was Miss Congeniality.

• Brian Wagner of Tega Cay won the Geography Bee at Fort Mill Middle School. Tony Wohlers was runner-up.

1973

• J.C. Pearce was approved as the new Fort Mill city recorder relieving Mayor Lunsford McFadden of that responsibility.

• Fort Mill High School football players Tony Dixon, Ricky Mason, Eddie Smith and Ronnie White were named to the All-Conference team.

• The 5 inches of snow from a Jan. 7 storm began to melt after 10 days of subfreezing temperatures. Fort Mill schools were idle for a week.

• Fort Mill City Council revived the possibility of constructing a municipal complex building on Confederate Street.

1953

• The Jan. 10 issue of BusinessWeek carried an excellent article, accompanied by several pictures, on the new Springs Office and Pilot Mill on White Street, Fort Mill.

• The Bank of Fort Mill closed for one day in observance of the birthdays of Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

1933

• Two women, charged with disorderly conduct at a dance given in the armory of the Tom Hall Guards, forfeited their bonds in Mayor McElhaney’s court.

• Miss Mary Kimbrell left Fort Mill for Moncks Corner where she assumed the duties of floor supervisor at the new Berkley County hospital.

1913

• J.J. Coltharp, the newly elected Chief of Police, moved his family from Gold Hill Road to the Cousart cottage in Sprattville.

• Burt Knox was committed to the York Jail to await trial on the charge of having fired the barn of A.C. Wallace in Gold Hill.
