FORT MILL TOWNSHIP --

Due to an anticipated winter storm, the Fort Mill School and Lancaster school districts decided to close schools early today.

Elementary schools in Fort Mill and Tega Cay will close at 11 a.m. today. Middle schools and the two high schools are closing at noon.

In the Lancaster County part of the township, Indian Land Elementary School will close at 10:30 a.m. and Indian Land mMiddle and Indian Land High schools close at 11.

The fast-moving storm, already causing freezing rain in Charlotte, is expected to make its way south to York and Lancaster counties early today. Forecasters say some snow could be possible. The result is slick roads and poor visibility and officials caution residents to avoid driving if possible and for motorists to drive at reduced speeds and with extreme caution.

The early close school closings forced officials to reshuffle the weekend sports schedule:

Nation Ford basketball games at Clover were moved to Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. with the girls' team, followed by the boys afterwards.

Saturday's Region III-AAAA wrestling tournament at Rock Hill High was postponed until Tuesday at 5:30 pm.

Tonight's Fort Mill basketball games against York will now be played Monday starting with the varsity girls at 6 p.m. The boys' game will follow.
