Dowdy graduates from Clemson

Tyler Dowdy of Fort Mill graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in graphic communications with a minor in business administration.

A 2008 Fort Mill High School graduate, Dowdy also was on the Dean’s List, in the Tiger Band and completed the Cooperative Education Program at Clemson. He accepted a job with the Accredo Company in Sugar Land, Texas.

Dean’s List at Furman

The following local students are included on the dean’s list for the Fall 2012 semester at Furman University in Greenville. These students met a grade-point average of 3.4 or higher on the four-point system:

Hall makes Clemson Dean’s List

Sarah Elizabeth Hall of Fort Mill made the Dean’s List at Clemson University in Clemson.

To make the Dean’s List, students must achieve a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.99 on the 4.0 scale.

Holt makes Wagner Dean’s List

Carrie E. Holt of Fort Mill made the “A” Dean’s List at Wagner College on Staten Island, N.Y.

To make the “A” Dean’s List, students must achieve at 4.0 grade-point average for the semester.

ILES kindergarten registration

Kindergarten Registration for Indian Land Elementary School in Indian Land will begin on March 7 from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. All 2013-2014 kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept.1, 2013, to enroll at Indian Land Elementary. After the kick-off date, parents and guardians with legal paperwork may register between the office hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

At registration, parents must present originals of the following documentation:

• Immunization record

• Legal birth certificate

• Parent driver’s license with current address

• Two Forms of Residency

1. Utility bill with matching service address

2. Mortgage or Settlement Statement, Rental, Lease or Purchase Agreement, or House or Car Property Tax Receipt.

If living with relative:

• Notarized Rental Agreement

• Utility bill from property owner

• Parent driver’s license with current address

• Vehicle property tax with insurance or bill and current address

Scholarships available

• The American Institute for Foreign Study has announced that its Shakespeare’s Globe Education Theater Program has been selected as a summer institute for the years 2013 to 2015 by the Fulbright Commission.

College freshmen and sophomores interested in Shakespearean Theater are encouraged to apply for the summer program. If awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, the institute, to take place in London, England, will be almost completely paid for, including travel, insurance, meals, and tuition.

Application materials must be submitted directly to the Fulbright Commission by March 11.

• Kohl’s Department Stores will be accepting nominations for outstanding young volunteers beginning this week for the 2013 Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program. Nominations for kids ages six to 18 will be accepted Feb. 1 through March 15 at kohlskids.com, and nominators must be 21 years or older. Through the program, Kohl’s will award more than 2,300 young volunteers more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes to reward kids who have made a positive impact on their communities.
